Divided City seeks an innovative and reliable web designer. We are interested in someone who can take our website to the next level and develop an online presence for Divided City. This project would be an excellent portfolio builder, perfect for someone with a bit of time to volunteer. The opportunity includes the chance to design the Divided City website, display 4 new issues per year, and work with our creative team. If interested, please contact Divided City at divided_city@yahoo.com with "DC web designer" in the subject.

Everyone has a poem, a story, a script, a doodle that longs to be a masterpiece, a line in the sand, a message in a bottle. Artists share their secret scribbles in divideDCity. We hope they inspire you to scribble some yourself and create.

Submissions info:

Fringed
Washington DC's inaugural Fringe Festival will take place July 20th to July 30th. In conjunction with the Capital Fringe, Divided City will be dedicating our summer issue entirely to the idea and/or expression of fringe art; inclusive of poetry, prose, experimental writing forms, photos, and sketch work.

Fringe is work that falls within, between, and sometimes beyond the standard categories of theatre, music, dance, spoken word and puppetry. The unlimited power of creativity, arriving in forms seldom presented to the general public. We want your ideas for our summer issue. This is a chance to show the Washington area that underneath the monuments and power suits exists a thriving underground.
Think DADA, Karen Finley, Grace Jones, Merce Cunningham + John Cage, Afrika Bambaataa, e.e. cummings, Guillermo Gomez-Peña, Yoko Ono, Richard Pryor, Louise Bourgeois…

Then concoct something you believe deeply.

We’d like to know in whatever way this theme touches you. Share with us and we will relay your ideas so that we may all gain new perspectives on an age-old subject. So, please let your gifts shine!

Submissions policy:

  • Names will be removed from all submissions before we choose, to encourage non-bias on our staff.
  • Poets and writers are allowed no more than one submission per issue. That way, when we pick what we want to go into the issue, no one will have more than one piece represented. (spread the wealth!)
  • Artists can contribute as much artwork as you want. (Here, artists, artists artists! Heeeere, artyartyart!)
  • We realize that youth and experience makes for different types of poetry. Therefore, the younguns (those under 20) and those oldsters (21 and up) are chosen from separate pools.
  • Any problems with this? write us at our email account.
